Going along with the idea of disecting lyrics to songs, let's start eith Vera. Does anyone see it as a love song? If not how do you all see the song?

VERA

I sold you out
I made amends
I made you trust in me again
We found our peace between the broken ends

You took the keys
You swallowed them
You said you'd never feel again
The lock you opened in oblivion

If you want me to wait
I’ll wait
If you want me to break whatever needs to break
Line up your chains
If you want me to hear
I’ll listen
To every word you say
Vera, it's been 3 years since the day

The fire rained down on your parade
You left us all and I can't help but feel a bit betrayed
Your wounds are singing and I distain
It's better off this way
3 years since the day

You made a pact
You dropped the act
You focused on what you could attract
The fight's uphill
They helped to separate
You dropped the cannon and struck the match
The blaze you could not soon detach
The burning bright you tried to imitate

If you want me to stay
I'll stay
If you want me to take you from this life you hate
I'll face the pain
If you want me to steer displaced
Hand me both your reins
Vera, it's been 3 years since the day

The fire rained down on your parade
You left us all and I can't help to feel a bit betrayed
Your wounds are singing and I distain
It's better off this way
3 years since the day

All the nights you used to fear
All the song you’ll never hear
Since the day
All the days becoming clear
All the life you’ll never be here

The fire rained down on your parade
You left us all and I can't help to feel a bit betrayed
Your wounds are singing and I distain
It's better off this way
3 years since the day

(The fire)
Since the day
(The fire)
(If you want me to stay)
All the nights you used to fear
All the song you used to hear
All the days becoming clear
All the life you'll never be here

It's better off this way
3 years since the day

I see Vera as more of a lover's lament than a love song. I think the title character committed suicide, and her lover (or maybe even just a close friend) is lamenting her fate and wishing things could have gone differently. He also seems to feel a bit bitter toward her for committing such a selfish act.

I actually think the entire Luna Despierta EP is a story about Vera -- or whoever she represents.

you know suicide never occurred to me! now that u say it i'm totally hearing that but i always thought she was in an insane asylum lol

as for all of luna being about this one person, i've got to go back and read them all, what an interesting theory

I don't think that Luna is a concept album because A Scarlet Letter and Stuck Under Wheels don't seem to mesh with the subject of Vera and Anodyne.

However, suicide makes sense to me both in Vera and in Anodyne. More specifically, one person coming to grips with the loss of a loved one to suicide. I may be completely wrong, but the imagery in both songs tell me the story of someone who wants to help a lover/friend who is so lost and hopeless that she set herself on fire (literally or figuratively). Vera didn't just leave the lover/friend. She "left us all"

However, the proper name Vera means faith or truth and hasn't been popular since the turn of the last century. Maybe there isn't a real person lost, named Vera or not, in the real life of NFT and co... maybe it's an ideal, personified into this Vera.

I never thought of it as suicide either but now I totally hear it that way! I really like getting everyone's pov on the songs too we should do this w/ other songs as well!
